I'm thinning some cuke seedlings today, and have an idea of giving the thinned ones a good use as bait for cuke beetles.

My idea is to freeze the seedlings (cotyledons and a small leafpair). When the plants start flowering (they're under rowcovers 'til then), I'm going to make a cold-steeped tea out of the seedlings, then dip yellow stickytraps in the tea. This will make them a yellow death-trap that smells like cucumbers.

Think it will work? (And has this idea been tried before?)

(BTW, I posted this elsewhere as well...)

Definitely worth a try. I also would try another trick; certain beatles love 4 o'clocks but the plant is poisonous to them. Can't say if cuke beetles would fall for it. Young borage leaves have a cuke taste and while not poisonous it might draw the beetles to them?
