We just recently purchased a 1/2 acre lot behind our house that has been neglected for years. It is partially wooded with a TON of weeds and wild berry bushes. Is there anything anyone would recommend for us to use as a weed killer? It doesn't matter if we have to buy it or make a mixture of something ourselves. We're just tired of pulling, digging, etc. and not getting very far.

You could smother a lot of the weeds by laying down cardboard with a mulch on top. See if you can get the big appliance boxes to speed up the process. The mulch could be wood chips, straw, or anything else you can get your hands on. I use straw since it's easy to get and doesn't have a lot of weed seed in it like hay does. I do get wheat sprouts, but they're easy to pull up.
You can use strong vinegar, 20% solution. There's an herbicide called 'Burnout' that has vinegar and some other things in it, but it's expensive.
There's always black plastic, but it would take a lot to cover 1/2 an acre. If it's a sunny spot, the weeds will get scorched under the black plastic on a hot day, so you could just move it around once an area is scorched good, then cover with a mulch, otherwise some of the weeds will come back from the roots. You could just weed whack them and cover them too, which would be faster.
Good luck and enjoy your new piece of land once you get the weeds under control.
