OK. Everything is up. My question is I have one particular elephant ear that I don't even have an ID for, that came up, the top got knocked off, started to rot. I dug it up, cleaned it up, has roots everywhere, but am clueless as to whether this is a lost cause or not. We are supposed to have a freeze this weekend, and I am not even sure if I can save this plant from coming up so soon. My understanding is that this particular variety can go either way here as far as the over-wintering. but generaly wont come up till late May at the earliest.

could you maybe show a picture? how about ptting it in a pot and getting it in the house -- wouldn't have the freeze problem

I will try to get a picture on here later, I had already done what you suggested, and had also cleaned it up. The damage is no longer progressing, and it is no longer rotting, but the very top is gone.
