Two of my clematis are growing roots above ground. Why? What should I do?
Anyone out there?

Clematis like other plant species will develop aerial roots in order to improve their structural integrity (vines cling to walls for example) and also in order to reproduce or spread. However I don't think Clematis are known to grow aerial roots frequently (or at all) but I doubt it is anything to worry about. I would leave the plant undisturbed or examine other potentially contributing factors such as excessive moisture around woody stems.

Clematis will grow roots on stems when there's a lot of regular moisture. If the canopy is very dense and/or there's a lot of leaf debris you can often see some root development.
