I decided to finally try my hand at clematis last year and purchased two clematis, a Bourbon and a Niobe from Silver Star Vinery . Neither did very well last year, the Niobe almost dying and the Bourbon just growing a couple of vines and having a few flowers.

Well, I cut them both to within a few inches of the ground in February and below are pictures of them as of the past week or two. Can't wait until they both fill out and based on the speed with which they are growing, that should be in no time.

Back on March 3 a month after pruning down to two stems and five or six buds:

This past week (first week of April):

And finally, the straggler, my Niobe... almost died off last year, we'll see how it goes this year:

Looking good! My Niobe has a lot of buds getting close to opening up. 2 of my early varieties are in full bloom now, brightening up our cloudy days.

It looks like your Niobe will make it just fine. Will you be planting them in the ground or leaving them in pots?

For the Bourbon, the plan is to leave it in the pot. I understand it's a shorter growing variety that is good for pot culture. As to the Niobe, guess I'll figure that out when I see how it grows this year. It's still kind of spindly looking compared to the Bourbon but if it starts growing vigorously, I guess I'll have to find a spot of sunny ground to plant in.
