Not much action here this time of the year, but hopefully someone might see this.

I have the classic problem of tree roots invading raised beds in which I grow vegetables. I came across a product called Biobarrier, http://www.biobarrier.com/rootcontrol.htmlwhich is a fabric impregnated with trifluralin on one side and is supposed to last 15 years. This herbicide stops root growth at the tips by inhibition of mitosis. It is a widely used herbicide in the US, but banned in the EU :?

I thought of possibly putting it at the bottom of the bed. Since the herbicide will be slow released from the bottom side I am wondering if anyone might know if this would be safe for edible gardening on top of it. My beds are deep enough that the veggie roots normally don't penetrate all the way to the bottom.

My initial reaction is of course not to mix chemicals with edibles but I would like to know what others think.
