I have a couple of large well established "purple smoke" false indigo that are beautiful when in bloom.

Only problem, they take up a lot of garden space after they bloom. I know that people value them for their seed pod display but I would rather have the space.

My question is:
Can I cut them back after they bloom without causing distress to the plant?

I know what you mean about them being space hogs. I left mine behind at the old garden when I moved and didn't bother replacing it because of the short bloom/ big size.

I did cut it back around this time of year to make it a little smaller..... I don't think it effected the blooming at all, but I'm no expert so maybe someone else can chime in.
