I'm not certain this is a native but the area the house is in is not very populated buy people.
It is growing fast at ~3200 feet altitude on the north drainage of the Santa Rita Mountains to the south of Tucson, AZ. The leaves look familiar but I just can't place it or find it in any books.
I hope someone can ID it.

Hi Ed. Why must you always look for different things? Can't you be happy with a grassy lawn and window boxes of petunias?

Are the leaves fuzzy? The first thing that came to mind was Paulownia tomentosa. The seedlings pop up in cracks, and will tiller out with copious stems if cut back. One hallmark of these is the fuzzy leaves and stems.

I'm unfamiliar with so many of the western plants, but do you think it's a type of annual sunflower? If it blooms, that will id it for sure!

It looks like a sunflower to me. Did you ever get any flowers?
