Discussions on the forums have convinced me that I should try seed tapes/squares for a couple of reasons. The first being, I do not screen my compost and the result is a RB garden surface that is not as fine of a texture as when I would till the garden. I could flatten an area that is to be planted with a 12” X 12” board, remove the board, place the seed squares and cover with a potting soil or fine compost. There are several reasons previously discussed on the forums that I could use but if you are interested, you will have to read them and come to your own conclusion.

I would like to try the 11” X 11” paper towels but even the cheaper ones seam much more durable that the toilet tissue. They would be more convenient and easier to handle in addition; I could crease them to mark the seeds per square that I wanted.

For my first go-around, I decided on the toilet tissue. Every thing is in place that I need tissue, glue, tweezers, glass seed tray and seeds.

I used single sheets of tissue and glued two seeds on each tissue, one for backup. With a slight overlap, nine tissues will fit in a 12” X 12” square nicely. Anytime you are using toilet tissue, a slight overlap is good.

Everything went so well with the lettuce seeds I decided to do all the seeds that I direct sow.

Thinking about what I just did and not knowing just how soluble the glue is also still wanting to use paper towels, I decided to run a little test.

Both are setting on wet sponges in containers for humidity retention. I will post the results with photos as soon as they sprout, if they sprout. John

Hi John
The celery & tomato juice may be the deciding factor.
(My mom soaked her seed in tobacco/water tea just before planing)
I'm guessing you have a celery experiment going there though. :) LOL

I like the idea & this would eliminate the thinning I always do after the seeds sprout.
Painful to do, but knowing if I want good plants, I need to sacrifice some when they sprout so close.
What would be a good method for say, a 20 foot row of carrots?

Pe-game has been on since 7am here.
What am I doing.
Walking, standing, moving around nervously. Waiting for it to be afternoon can I can get a MGD, Bloody mary, Margarita or something to help me relax a little.
Have the dog with his Steelers sweater on, Grand daughter with her Steeler shirt on, I've changed shirts twice. Grandma has her shirt, Daughter has her shirt (though it's pink).
Neighbors rooting for the Cardinals.
Was in Pa in 2005 during the play offs. I remember how the whole Western Pa was decked out with Steeler yard displays.
Must be even more so, now.
Tough day already & it's 2 hours till game time.
GOOOOOOO! STEELERS
