My problem is getting into the garden to pick mature veggies. I do not want to change the size of the garden, boxes, pathways or plant fewer plants. Has anyone tried latticing about 12”-16” high around the parameter of the boxes to confine the plants and how did it work?

John

You're overfeeding them!  I have some asparagus that always topples from the wind and I'm thinking of just putting some stakes in with string or wire strung between them to hold them up. Maybe that would be all you'd need to do.

I feel so sorry for you. :( If I could send a couple of moose by that would fix your problem.

Good info to have though, helps me make a plan & allow room for access to the garden.
Sounds like you proved that the plants can grow quit well in straight compost.

Lattice may cause some shading, & limit access to the plants for harvesting. Maybe a few horizontal runs of wire spaced 6" or so & train the plants as they grow.
I use this for raspberries & in the greenhouse I use parachute cord.
4" sq fencing an idea also, similar to the fence around the tomatoes.

"Helicopter" or "overhead crane" harvesting may work :) .
