Okay, nice garden scape, love the ocotillo, and there are lost of small thingsgrowing there. I enlarged and scanned the pic with my beady eyes so I probably saw it, but dunno what I am looking for 'zactly.
I think the Pachy is not alone, do I see another (or two) smaller ones to its right? and another small Oco at the base of the columnar?
...or the little aloe in flower - sweet li'l thang :D

Nice photo tho'

OMG!!! Your Fouquieria ochoterenae is FINALLY sending up an inflorescence!!
Woohoo!!

Keep posting the progress - I have NEVER seen ochoterenae bloom - even in pictures! But, the drawing in Hendrickson is really intriguing - especially since it is theorized that the inflorescence structure evolved to allow larger pollinators (like perching birds, as opposed to hummers).

VERY exciting!

Congratulations!

I'm almost afraid to ask - since my plant is only 1 ft tall & 5 1/2 yrs old - but, How old is your plant?

Congratulations!

Does that mean you've had ALL species of Fouquieria bloom for you?
Cheers,
Tristan

Well, I can post some better photos of this first inflorescence on one of my Fouquieria ochoterenae. I planted the seedling, just a ~ 8" stick, about 9 years ago.
It's interesting that the inflorescence develops only on the branch without leaves, while most other branches already leaved out after the two rainstorms we had in December.

Why that, Keith?
It is just a normal Pachypodium lamerei from Fiherense, the form which is said to flower already when ~2 ft tall. In addition it has been naturally pruned by freezing its tip off in 2002 and 2007. :P

The inflorescence shows some progress. But the left one is damaged/misshaped already. Again don't know way. Maybe a grain of hail hit it, a bird was interested in it or it is simply too cold for proper development.
