because today I noticed that one of my ~ 18 year old Fouquieria purpusii seedling will flower for its first time soon. It has developed flower buds like this on the tip of at least 5 branches.
This species obviously needs the cool and moist season.

And you know it's a momentous event when CJ's excited.

Good growing, CJ. Will you need another plant to make whoopee?

The black mark on the stick is 3 ft. The base of this plant with 2 stems is 6" in diameter.

JH, unfortunately one needs 2 flowering plants and hand pollination to get seeds.

Well Tristan,
No reason to die for! Don't know why, but most flower buds have been aborted before opening.
This is the shabby rest of the former so promising inflorescence full of buds:

It's still pretty nice, Jordi!
At least some of the corollas actually opened, and I'm sure it will just get better next year! :D

Cheers,
Tristan
